21 Jan Levee
Terra firma cleansed once more
Tributaries
with untimely peak.
Ominous,
but not unique.
Rolling clouds
appear like smoke.
Heaven’s roar,
rattling oaks.
Heavy downpour.
Basin swell.
Overflowing,
cresting well.
Broken levee,
sets it free.
Groundline flooding,
sharp reprieve.
Terra firma,
cleansed once more.
Impermanent.
Pure.
Solid land.
Moon above.
Softened darkness,
just enough.
This poem was originally titled Estuary, but it now belongs to a larger collection and fits there much better with its new name.
