Sweetest Lies

Sweetest Lies

the sweetest lies
are the ones
we tell ourselves.

when we know the truth,
but sit it on a shelf.

collecting dust;
passing time.

feigning trust;
shutting eyes.

the sharpest knife
cuts straight
to the bone.

when we try overlooking
what we damn-well know.

with rose colored glasses
and a heart full of hope.

a victim of yourself;
a self-deceiving dope.

the sweetest lies
are draped in desire
and buried in the dark.

there is no instinct
like that of the heart.
