Trust the Sunlight

Trust the Sunlight

After the clouds arrive

He doesn't trust the sunlight
'cause it doesn't stick around.
The sun may rise to wake him,
but it always falls back down.
He watches as the moon climbs
the speckled star-lit sky
and wonders why the sun leaves
pieces of itself behind.
It sinks beneath the ocean
to drown the world in night,
but even in its absence
its remnants sparkle bright.
He wonders why the moon comes
to replace the ardent star.
Or, why the sun would yield to
the darkness from afar.

He doesn't trust the sunlight
'cause it can't shine past the clouds.
It hides behind their shadows
to let the rain pour down.
He watches as the clouds drift
as the sun allows them room.
He wonders why the sun stays
amidst the dark and gloom.
It stays throughout the downpour,
although it ducks and hides,
and when the rain is over,
it restores the brilliant sky.
It shines as if it’s stronger
to dry the rain-soaked ground.
He doesn't trust the sunlight,
but he understands it now.
