The Silence Between Notes

The piano keys
            slice through the echo
            of my heartbeat
            t h r o b b i n g
at the back of my throat.

You tell me I’m beautiful –
            speaking past my eyes
            straight into my soul.

We fill our bodies with wine and
hope, only sharing stories we want
the other to know. You ask me to
dance to a song and we joke that
we’ll one day, later, call it our own.
And I dance there, in romanced air,
placing my head close to your
chest, inhaling notes of cashmere
and spice. You are warmth and
gentleness draped in what
feels right.

You tell me I’m perfection –
            the incarnation of a wish;
            stardust wrapped in skin.

The piano keys
            slam into my chest
            as my heart explodes
            b l e e d i n g
            all over my bones.

I changed the first instance of wrapped to draped. I don’t feel like editing the image or the voice-over, so the history of this change shall remain.
